Chapter 7 · Documents & skills

Show it your letters. It writes in your shape.

Agencies produce the same kinds of documents again and again, such as approval letters, advisory reports and funder narratives, and each agency has its own way of writing them. Skills let the agency teach StreamBuild that shape from its own examples, instead of prompting for it every time.

If you are deciding

Generated documents read like your agency wrote them, because they are built from documents your agency did write.

If you use it daily

Pick the skill, pick the engagement. The draft arrives in your format, with its assumptions listed for you to settle.

If you are doing diligence

Skills are supplied exemplars plus a document spec. Every generated document passes the same ownership gate before filing.

Taught, not prompted

A skill is made of two things the agency supplies: exemplar documents, meaning real letters or reports you have already sent, and a document spec that says what sections the document has and what each must contain. When a document is generated, the skill’s exemplars and spec go to the model with the engagement’s records, so the draft follows the shape of your own work.

Filing

A generated document is a deliverable on the engagement. It carries a manifest that includes the skill used, its extracted assumptions, and an owner per assumption. It cannot be filed until each is owned.

What this does not do

  • Skills do not retrain a model. They supply your examples and spec as context each time a document is generated.
  • A skill is only as good as its exemplars. Two or three strong examples outperform twenty uneven ones.
  • Documents are not sent or filed automatically after generation.
